Science, my lad is made up of mistakes, but they are mistakes which it is useful to make, because they lead little by little to the truth.
Science Intent Statement
At St Vincent’s we provide a high quality science curriculum that has been designed to excite, inspire and encourage our children to develop a curiosity about the world. We understand that Science has dramatically changed our lives and will continue to do so in the future, which is why a good scientific knowledge is vital to our children to enable them to take an active part in the future of our society. Our curriculum encompasses each of the scientific disciplines; biology, chemistry and physics and is not only knowledge based but includes the development of scientific skills.
Our children are helped to understand how science can be used to explain what is happening, make predictions about how things will behave and analyse and explain what they have observed. Pupils are encouraged to be led by their curiosity, develop an enquiring mind and seek answers independently. Subsequently they will analyse and present their findings. We use a variety of learning experiences and use our limited outdoor space and the wider locality whenever possible. Educational visits and visitors into school are used to give our children the opportunity to have experiences that will inspire them to develop a love of science.
